Letter Crafts - Uppercase & Lowercase

Monday is officially our first day of the new school year, and I can hardly wait!  This year, I will be working with Super Tot on learning his letters.  We will be doing one new letter each week, and having a review week every 6 weeks.

I have always loved the letter crafts that I have seen on various blogs, and I knew I wanted to incorporate that concept into our lessons.  Some of the crafts I have seen use the letters at different angles, which I thought might confuse Super Tot during the time that he is initially learning them.  I hope to do this type of activity each year, so I know I will use those in the future.  However, my creative side also wanted to create some new crafts that I hadn't seen before.  I was unable to be original with some of the letters, but you might find some new ideas and inspiration here. 

Super Tot will be doing these crafts as he learns the letters, but I have put together an ABC Book for him that shows my examples.

While I am generally fairly artistic, I botched drawing this otter 3 times.  I ended up finding this one online and printing it onto brown construction paper.

Healthy Eating Chart

We all want to teach our children healthy eating habits.  Use this chart as a visual reminder for both parents and children to ensure they are getting the important nutrients and hydration their growing bodies need!

We place the chart in a page protector and mark off each box with a dry erase marker.  You can also print off a new chart each week and use markers, stickers, or whatever you choose!

Super Tot is 31 months old.

Fruit Loop Color Chart

Draw a circle on the chart indicating the correct color of each Fruit Loop.  Count the totals when complete.

Circles are the one shape Super Tot can draw right now, so I thought he would enjoy drawing circles, rather than coloring in the box.  You could do it either way.

Happy / Sad Sorting

Sort each photograph by whether the person looks happy or sad.  

I Googled "happy" and "sad" faces, printed them onto cardstock and laminated them.  You could also use pictures cut out of magazines or photographs you have on hand.

Number Links

Attach the correct number and color of links to each ticket.

Super Tot might initially need a little assistance placing the first link onto each ticket, but I think he'll have that mastered by the end of the week.

Letter Writing / Envelope Stuffing

"Write" letters, stuff into envelopes and place sticker "stamp" into correct corner of envelope.

I might change this out with real stamps and let him send actual "letters" this week, but I didn't have any on hand.

 Connect-A-Cube Patterns

Create matching patterns using Connect-A-Cubes.


I am currently sticking to AB patterns, but with these cubes, you can do pretty much anything!

Pom Pom Sort w/ Tongs

Using tongs, place each pom pom into the correctly colored tube.

This is just another way to use the toilet paper roll sorter I made for sorting popsicle sticks.  I love using my tools in a variety of ways.

Clothes Pin Letter Matching

Clip Clothes Pin onto correct Alphabet Disk.

This is another example of finding multiple uses for one tool.  These Alphabet Disks are one of my favorite and most versatile items!

My favorite Half Price Books find

One of my favorite stores is Half Price Books.  I always find wonderful treasures, from books and cd's to journals,  notecards, etc.  Some of the items are new and some are gently used, but they are always a bargain, and we get so much for our money!  They also have an educator discount that gives an additional 10% off to teachers, including homeschoolers!  If you are a fellow homeschooler and don't already have an educator card, be sure to ask for one.  The discount is store-wide, no matter what you purchase!

A couple weeks ago, I found what turned out to be my favorite purchase ever from Half Price Books!  It was brand new and still shrink wrapped.  They had a whole display of them on an end cap in the Children's Section (I may just go back and buy a bunch for gifts).  Their price was $5, instead of the $20 retail price.  

The item is the cd set pictured above.  It is titled The Family Audio Bible and is a compilation of 36 unabridged bible stories.  Being unabridged is the best part!  This is a no-fluff, straight from God's word, reading of the Bible text.  It is 3 cd's and is read from the New Revised Standard Version of God's word.  The set is available on Amazon, as well.  There is a review on Amazon that states displeasure with the "straight from God's word" reading, but again, this is what my family loves about it so much.  Both Princess and Super Tot enjoy it and ask for it to be played in the car.  It took a couple of stories to get used to the reading style, but as a mom, I love that there are no sound effects or story-type additions.  It is true to God's word, which I for one think is the most amazing adventure book ever!


If you are looking for an audio book with eternal value, this is the one for you!
