Update, printables, etc.

Hello readers!  First, I want to thank you for your continued support and readership.  Second, I wanted to let you know that while I am not currently updating this blog, I am still here and am always happy to take emails, questions and comments.

It has been brought to my attention that my printables are no longer accessible, and I am working to fix that problem.  In the mean time, if there are any printables that you are in need of, please email me so I can send them directly to you.

Also, I am still sending my 365 Things We Love About You list out on a daily basis, so please email if you would like a copy of that, too.  I know Father's Day is coming quickly, and I usually try to reply to emails within a day or two of receiving them.

Thank you again!  I hope you continue to enjoy browsing The Princess and the Tot!

Staycation Binders and Fun!

Because we are still fairly new to our city, we decided that it would be fun to do a Staycation this summer and enjoy the many fun things our new home and surrounding area has to offer.  However, we wanted to be sure that it still felt like a vacation, so we made some plans to make it feel different from our every day life.

First off, we are turning our home into a mini hotel, complete with turndown service, chocolates on the pillows, travel-size toiletries, etc.  My niece is flying in from out of state, so that will make it feel different, too!

We have something fun planned for each day of our Staycation.  Several of our destinations are in neighboring cities and will require short travel.  While that doesn't exactly equal a road trip, I wanted to simulate that as much as possible.  I have created travel binders for road trips in the past, but many of the travel ideas I've used are for much longer road trips.  I was inspired by an idea I saw on Pinterest, and decided I could make the travel binders work for our week of fun.
Each child has their own binder.  The older girls' binders are identical, while Super Tot's is slightly different.  They all have a pencil case with a pen, pencil, dry erase marker & colored pencils.  The front pocket of the pencil case is for their "Staycation Bucks" (see below).
My favorite addition to our Staycation Binders, and something I have never done before, is Staycation Bucks.  The children can earn Staycation Bucks each day and trade them in for spending money.  See the FAQ below (which is included in the binders) for an explanation of how they work. I have also included the following printables at the bottom of this post:

Vacation Buck FAQ
 Staycation Bucks FAQ

What are Staycation Bucks?
Staycation Bucks are like spending money for our Staycation!

How do I earn Staycation Bucks?
Each day of our Staycation will present new and different opportunities for you to earn Staycation Bucks.  See each day’s itinerary for specifics opportunities available for that day.

Is there a limit to the number of Staycation Bucks I can earn?
You may earn up to 3 Staycation Bucks each day for catching Mommy or Daddy use the “Word of the Day.”  Each BONUS Staycation Bucks Challenge can be completed one time, earning 1 additional Staycation Buck per BONUS.

What do I do with the Staycation Bucks I have earned?
Staycation Bucks may be traded into cash at any point(s) during our Staycation.

How much money are Staycation Bucks worth?
Each Staycation Buck is worth one (1) dollar.  However, if you save them up and trade them in 10 at a time, you will earn an extra dollar.  For example:

* 1 Staycation Buck = $1
* 5 Staycation Bucks = $5
...but...
* 10 Staycation Bucks = $11

Once I trade them in, what can I use my money for?
Once you’ve earned them, they are yours!  You can spend them on anything you want during our vacation souvenirs, gifts, etc.

Do I have to spend my Staycation Bucks on the day they are earned?
No, the Staycation Bucks are good for the entire Staycation, so feel free to save them up, or spend them however you choose!

Will you be buying me souvenirs or giving me additional spending money for our Staycation?
The Staycation Bucks are our contribution to your spending money, and we will not be providing you with additional funds.  We will, however, be covering all other costs during our trip, such as admissions, tickets, food, etc.  You are welcome to add your own cash to your spending money, as well.

I created a daily itinerary sheet for each day of our Staycation.  I also made cardstock dividers separating each day.  The dividers show the day and location.  Behind each divider is the daily itinerary.
The itinerary sheet highlights what we are doing that day, including fun things to look for and do, the Word of the Day (see the FAQ above), as well as a daily BONUS Challenge to complete to earn an additional Staycation Buck.

The BONUS Challenges are different for each day and include scavenger hunts, historical trivia they will learn at specific destinations, physical challenges, etc.
Also included behind each divider is a journal sheet for that day.  If the kids complete their journal page, they will earn an additional Staycation Buck.

A few of our destinations are historical sites & museums.  I have included history sheets & information to read on the way behind the tabs for those days.

The binders also include some fun games to play on the way to our various destinations.  I made an "I Spy" game which will actually be stored in a separate bag, but the "Find-It" Lists are in the binders.  The girls have a list of items, while Super Tot has pictures of the items to look for.
I also found some fun travel games online and included them in our binders.  They are placed in page protectors so they can be played multiple times.  You can find the games here, here and here.
I also printed off some Mad Libs for the girls and a few mazes for Super Tot.

The last item in the binders (though difficult to see here) is a large clear envelope.  This is for the kids to put brochures, ticket stubs, or other flat souvenirs from our trip.
In addition to the binders, I have a bag in the car of additional travel games and activities.  I actually created the bag for a road trip back in 2010 and have kept it in the car since that time.  We use it often!  It includes some Color Wonder activity pads, a small binder with additional travel games I made and printed, a book of travel games, and a set of Road Trip Scavenger Hunt cards I made.

We have enjoyed this homemade game many times over the past 2 years, and I know we will enjoy it for many years to come.  I purchased a set of blank, Make-Your-Own flashcards and a set of rainbow Sharpie markers.  Then, I got to work!!  I made a list of 100 items we might see on various types of driving trips (city, country, etc.).  It took me several hours, but I drew and colored each of the 100 items, giving our family a one-of-a-kind road trip game!  When we play, we each draw 5 cards.  As we find an item on one of our cards, we place it in a "found" pile and draw another card.  When we get to our destination (or just decide to be finished playing), we tally up the found cards and whichever player has the most wins the game.  Almost all of the cards will work for any time we play, but if one is drawn that we know is impossible (ie. a toll booth where there is no toll road) - we allow that card to be exchanged.  It really is a fun game!  There are similar games available for purchase, but we love that ours is special and personal.
I am so excited about our Staycation, and I know our kids are, too!

Letter Gg - What's on the Tray?

Super Tot is 36 months old!

We are starting our Letter of the Week activities back up this week with the letter Gg!  I am so excited about the fun things we have planned.  Take a look:

Measuring Giraffes

Use the Connect-A-Cubes to measure how tall the different giraffes are.  Count the cubes for each when you are done.  Next, line up the giraffes and the cubes in order from tallest to shortest.
I made 5 giraffes in different heights out of construction paper for Super Tot to measure.  We will be measuring using Connect-A-Cubes, but you could also use legos or building blocks.
~math, fine motor, size differentiation~

Graphing Shapes
Take a shape out of the bowl and color the correct box on the graph.  When you have graphed all the shapes, count how many of each there are using the graph.
The graph printable is available below the photo.  I used stickers, but you could also draw the actual shapes.  I left them off the printable so I could reuse it adding additional concepts such as size or color.
~shape recognition, fine motor, math~

 Coloring Geese
Color the geese on each page using the color requested at the top of the page.
I found various coloring pages and added the text to the top of each page.  There is one for each color of the rainbow.
~fine motor, color recognition, pre-writing~

Grocery Shopping for Produce by Color
At the grocery store, find one fruit & one vegetable for each color.  Fill in the circle below each item once you have placed it in your cart.
We will head to the grocery store for this activity.  Super Tot will get to choose his own produce item (one fruit & one vegetable for each color).  We will bring his shopping cart with us and I will allow him to weigh the items and pay for them on his own, as well.  Additionally, we will be discussing nutrition and specific information for each item he chooses.
**the printable is available below the photo**

Letter Gg Animals
Enjoy exploring different animals that begin with the letter G!
These cards have various animal facts on the back, so we will read about and discuss each animal, as well as brainstorm to think of additional ones.  These cards are one of my favorite purchases (they've lasted us over 7 years already!  They are available here.
~science~

Spooning Gems
Use the spoon to transfer the gems from one cup to the other.
I found these gems in the floral section of Dollar Tree.
~fine motor~

Counting Gumballs
Count the number of "gumballs" in the gumball machine.
I will place a certain number of disks "in" the machine and have Super Tot count them.  I may also have him count only certain colors to make it a bigger challenge and change it up throughout the week.  The printout is available under the photo.  It includes a second page with gumballs to cut out, should you choose to use them.
~counting, color recognition~

Good Samaritan / Golden Rule
Place a golden seal next to each picture that shows someone being a good samaritan or following The Golden Rule.
Our Bible lessons this week will focus on the story of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), and on The Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12).  I cannot share this printable, as I do not have copyrights to the graphics and just made this for personal use.  I found pictures online of various scenarios (some showing kindness, some not - there are 8 of each) and put them into a table with a blank cell in front of each.  I had tons of these golden seal stickers from my mom, so I thought they would be perfect for Super Tot to mark the scenes showing Godly behavior.  We will discuss all 16 of the scenes, as well.
~Bible lesson, character development & honor~

Super Tot will also be doing the following 2 letter crafts from our Letter book, which you can read about here.

"G" is for Goose and "g" is for grapes.

Letter Gg Bible Verses for the week:
"Give, and it will be given to you..."  ~Luke 6:38
"God is love."  ~1 John 4:8

I get e-mails each week asking me how I display my Tot Trays & whether I leave them out all week or bring one out at a time.  This is only showing a very small part of our school room, but this is the main shelf where I keep Super Tot's trays.  They are out all week and he usually does each activity many times.  Some I need to do with him, while others he does on his own.  If he needs (or wants) assistance, I will work with him.  If I am not immediately available, as I also school 11 year old Princess, I direct him to something he can do independently until I can work with him.  This *usually* works well for us, but being flexible is ALWAYS key!  I will try to take additional photos of our school area in the near future, as well as photos of how I store our supplies.

Letter Ff - What's on the Tray?

Super Tot is 32 months old.

Here are the letter Ff activities I have planned for this week.

Feed the Fire
Place each log on the correct fire to reflect if it shows an uppercase or a lowercase letter Ff.
This took me about 5 minutes to make out of construction paper.
~letter recognition & sorting~

Flower Arranging by Color
Place each flower into the correct "vase" by matching the color of the vase to the color of the flower.
This is another re-use of the toilet paper roll color sorter I made a couple months ago.  We use it almost every week for various activities!
~color recognition & sorting, practical life skills~

Frog Hopper
Look at the number written on each lily pad and help the correct number of frogs "hop" onto each pad.
This was another activity that took me less than 5 minutes to create out of construction paper.  TIP:  I always remove the sticker backing on sticker sheets to assist Super Tot in being able to more easily peel the stickers off.
~number recognition, counting, fine motor~

Fruit Patterning
Complete and create patterns using the fruit from the bowl.
Plastic fruit is available at most craft stores, as well as in the floral section at Target, Walmart or your local dollar store.  This is a small set (perfect for little hands) that I found for $5 at Target.  We will also likely use the fruit for counting, sorting, etc.
~patterning, counting, sorting, early math~

Fall Pumpkin Counting
Take a card from the bowl and count the number of pumpkins on the card.  Use the Do-A-Dot painter to mark the correct number on the mat.
Super Tot loves to count!  We are working a lot right now on number recognition, as well.
**COMPLETE PRINTABLE AVAILABLE BELOW THE PHOTOGRAPH**
~counting, number recognition, fine motor~

 Fishers of Men Carabiners
Our Bible story focus this week is Fishers of Men.  We will use the carabiners to link pairs, make patterns, and just to play with!  I know he will enjoy this activity all week!
I found these cute ICTHUS carabiners at my local Christian teacher store priced at only $3 for the set of 12!
~fine motor, matching, sorting, patterning, etc.~

Writing Letters Aa - Ff
Practice writing the letters we have worked on so far this year.
Super Tot loves tracing and writing, so I knew he would enjoy these Kumon cards as soon as I saw them.
~fine motor, letter recognition, writing~

Folding Washcloths
Fold each washcloth in half, then in half again.  Stack them once they are folded.
I purchased these washcloths before we traveled to Korea to bring Super Tot home.  They are one of my favorite purchases!  They are available here.
~practical life skills~

Fall Leaf Sorting
Sort the leaves by type.
These are bulletin board cutouts I purchased for $1 at a local teacher store.  The package had 6 varieties, but we are only using 4 this week.
~sorting, matching~

Count the Flower Petals
Count the number of petals on each flower and write the correct number in the corner using the dry erase marker.
Super Tot is not able to recognize or write his numbers yet, so I will write the number for him to trace after he has counted the petals.
**PRINTABLE AVAILABLE BELOW THE PHOTOGRAPH**
~counting, number recognition, pre-writing, fine motor~

I Spy the Letter Ff
Circle all Uppercase & Lowercase Ff's.
Super Tot continues to enjoy these I Spy sheets each week.
~letter recognition, fine motor, pre-writing~

Super Tot will also be doing the following 2 letter crafts from our Letter book, which you can read about here.

"F" if for Flag and "f" is for flower.

Letter Ff Bible Verses for the week:
"Fear not, for I am with thee." ~Isaiah 43:5
"Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." ~Matthew 4:19, Mark 1:17
